When you step into "Pisco y Nazca" restaurant in Bethesda, MD, you feel it immediately: the hum of voices, the warmth of shared food, and — if you look up — a pattern of color and movement floating lightly above the main dining room.
These ceiling panels aren’t simply decoration. They’re a kinetic chromatic abstraction of La Chacana — the Andean Cross. For more than 4,000 years, this symbol has guided communities across the Andes, reminding us that life’s visible layers are always connected to an invisible order.
A Decomposition of the Symbol
These ceiling panels aren’t simply decoration. They’re a kinetic chromatic abstraction of La Chacana — the Andean Cross. For more than 4,000 years, this symbol has guided communities across the Andes, reminding us that life’s visible layers are always connected to an invisible order.
It’s an interpretation that honors the original meaning yet insists on something more: a living geometry that plays with light, perspective, and the gentle flow of people dining beneath it. It becomes an encounter, not just an image.
As guests share stories below, the artwork shifts gently above — a reminder that good meals, like good art, are never static.
Our practice stands for a multilayered experience, always bold enough to reshape how we see space and time.
An Art of Enduring Presence
I believe good art in public spaces shouldn’t just fill a gap — it should invite you to stay a moment longer. It should add depth to a meal, spark a memory, or start a conversation you didn’t expect.
These panels do exactly that. They hover as a living presence, whispering that there’s more to every gathering than the food and drink alone.

Urban Nature is a contemporary design that manages to convey the feeling of being in a natural environment with social spaces and green spaces, a meeting place.
The objective is to feel nature through colors, feel the fabrics and natural fiber textures, feel the stone and wood, feel the craftsmanship in furniture, carpets and art; all with a modern vision.
We virtualize spaces from a large texture linked and articulated as the lattice, where the curves reinforce its free and organic character, creating subspaces.
The tour of the spaces, makes you discover escaped heights, creating other sensations and highlighting functions. The ever-present vegetation contrasts and highlights each environment.
.
This modern space, covered by peruvian jungle wood lattices, filled up the emotions to create kinetic art. The aim was to enhance the natural rhythm of the ambiance.
Vibrating, secretives and ludicrous dynamics overcome the natural verticality.
Intimate and care interior design, allowed to live a high-end experience. while keeping contact with surrounding nature.
Natural ink was used to perform a minimalistic design over wood.
Thanks to Cam-Francia architects firm for this opportunity.
Thanks to the organizer #ExpoDeco, for allowed us to use all the dimension of the lattices. It fostered the monumentality.
"URBAN NATURE" by architects firm Cam-Francia, for the 2023 edition of #ExpoDeco.

The proposal was a collaborative, dynamic and playful environment that seeks to inspire creativity with a management of structured and flexible areas for each stage of the creative process in four interrelated sectors:
Blue Ocean: space next to the window to create a moment of relaxation and inspiration. Blue invites exploration and new opportunities
Light: a place to let creativity flow is fundamental, we integrated modular desks with a yellow tone that symbolizes creativity.
Hope: an environment to let the mind fly using the color green, complemented with natural details.
The Now: composed of red and changing lights, this environment invites to explore perspectives and free the mind.
This piece, was specially created for the Studio Lab concept by Fernando Alvarez.
It alludes to the ecstasy of the creative process. Where finding a brand idea, generates a new dimension that escapes the original expected boundaries.
It creates a bridge to reach out new concepts, connections, dreams, realities.
It filled up the space, with energy, vibration, movement and kinetic events, that enhanced the creativity process.
The artwork belongs to the Mar Adentro series.
We are greatful with Fernando Alvarez architecture firm for the invitation.
